Nice places to visit 7: others

- Hi guys, this may be our last post! It's incredible how much we learn about this beautiful town too... Thanks for the support. Well, we've already sad many things, but as this is the 'closing' post, we are going to give you other places that worth a visit:
  • 'Mercado Central' (Central Market): is the 'old shopping center' of BH, with almost 70 years old, and is currently the place where most people goes. It has ALL TYPES of shops, since baroque art to bars. The most famous bar is 'Rei do Torresmo', with a Torresmo (typical food) that is delicious. It has beers and delightful food from Minas Gerais. You can buy the typical cheese, that is absolutely YUMMY! You can park your car outside or inside the market. It's in the image.
  • 'Feira de Artesanato da Afonso Pena': is an enormous crafts fair that is installed in the Afonso Pena avenue. It has good food, handicraft, furniture, funny things that you can put in your home, etc. It happens every Sunday. Pay attention when parking your car: there are just a few vacancies free!
  • Hard Rock Café: a stage for shows, you must know about it! It stays outside the town, in the AltaVila Tower (that is gigantic).

Nice places to visit 6: shoppings

- Hi there, and we're back with the theme: shoppings. There are a lot of shoppings in Belo Horizonte, and with MANY shops. Some of them are expensive, but mostly is cheap. There is a big diversity between the shops, so worth visiting them and knowing more. Here are a few shoppings of the town for you, and good fun!
  • Pátio Savassi: localized in the neighborhood 'Savassi', it's one of the best options to go shopping with your friends and go to the best cinema in the town (Cinemark). It's on the 1st image.
  • BH Shopping: one of the biggest shopping centers of Minas Gerais, this center has many shops from different outfits and types. It is also a great option for cinema, and it has a lot of restaurants. Options abound!
  • Shopping Cidade: it's a cool shop localized in the center of the city. It's one of the most frequented shoppings in the city.
  • Minas Shopping: the biggest shopping center of the town, located in one of the biggest comercial hubs of the city. Has a lot of options to buy and to eat.
  • Shopping Del-Rey: one of the best shoppings for entertainment, and a great place to have fun. It also has a bowling club. It's on the 2nd image.
  • Diamond Mall: it has some shops which are kinda special: with bakery, butchery and market. It is a place where many beautiful women frenquent.

Nice places to visit 5: squares

 Hi there, and we're back with the theme: squares in Belo Horizonte. There is many squares around the town, with multiple names. We have already said 'Praça da Liberdade' and 'Praça do Papa'. Here there are a few more of them:
  • 'Praça Sete' (Seven square): it's a square in the heart of the town. It contains an Obelisk, built in 1922 and marks 100 years of the Brazilian independence from Portugal. It's on the 1st image.
  • 'Praça da Estação' (Station Square): it's a square that have many fountains and a statute. It has this name because there is the 'Central Station of Belo Horizonte'. It's on the 2nd image.
  • 'Praça Raul Soaes' (Raul Soares Square): it's a round square that you can walk, feed birds, sit on the benchs and see the landscape of the trees. It's on the 3rd image. The walks were suitable pavement for easy access, especially for the disabled and the visually impaired. It's on the 3rd image.
  • 'Praça JK' (JK Square): it's a square in tribute of Juscelino Kubitschek, a Brazilian president during 1956-1961. It's area for walking, running, cycling, skating, buying ice cream, etc. Right NOW it's happening a event honoring the 2010 South Africa World Cup. It's on the 4th image.

    Nice places to visit 4: Administrative City

    - Hi there, and we're back with a WONDERFUL attraction of BH: 'Cidade Administrativa', or Administrative City. It's a huge building from Oscar Niemeyer that represents one of the most important milestones in the history of the city. The government build this to bring in one space, offices and government agencies. It is the new official headquarters of the Minas Gerais state.
    - The architectural design enhances functionality and concept such as sustainable development. It is a cool project for the Nature, because it economizes water, energy and is full of green area.
    - The construction of Administrative City rescues an environmentally degraded area. It was constructed thinking in the future, with sustainability and taking care of the place. It was build accessible to people with special needs too.
    - The location of it is in the road MG010. You can catch the bus 8650 and it stops into the Administrative City. Search reporting on other numbers of buses, adresses and times.

    Nice places to visit 3: Mangabeiras

    Hi there, we're back with more attractions. Our theme now is a neighborhood called Mangabeiras. It's situated in the south of the city, and it has a lot of green area, full of trees and clean air.
    In this location we have the second largest urban park environment in Brazil, called Mangabeiras Park. It has a lot of green area and many typical animals, such as fishes, parrots, monkeys and lemurs, and you can feed them too! It also has some routes that you can follow walking or in buses. With them you can discover more of the vegetation of the area. Here is a photo of it. In this lagoon you can feed some fishes! The ration is around R$2,00. It's on the 1st image.
    - Mangabeiras has a serie of mountains called 'Serra do Curral', and the 'Palácio das Mangabeiras', the official residence of the Governor. It has also two squares:
    • 'Praça da Bandeira' (Flag Square), that has a big Brazilian flag hoisted. It's a local for meeting people. It's on the 2nd image;
    • 'Praça do Papa' (Pope Square), that is a really big area that you can ride a bike and play of various things, like kites and cars. It also is a stage for some shows.

    Nice places to visit 2: Liberdade Square

    - Another cool place to visit is the complex of 'Praça da Liberdade'. It is localized in the neighborhood of Savassi.
    - The name 'Praça da Liberdade' means Liberty Square and it was founded in 1897. It is a area for walking, buying cotton candy and seeing the font and the beautiful palm trees. In that area stays the 'Palácio da Liberdade', the current seat of the government of Minas Gerais.
    - In this area has also many things. It has a building that is from Oscar Niemeyer, a famous architect who designed a very chic premise.It has also the Public Library, that opens from Monday to Saturday and contains important books of the Brazilian literature.
    - It has also a circuit called 'Circuito Cultural Praça da Liberdade'. It is installed in public buildings surrounding the Square of Liberty, the largest complex of its kind in the country, will be formed by ten cultural spaces that integrate art, popular culture, knowledge and entertainment.     Nice places to visit 1: Pampulha

    - As we say right here, Belo Horizonte is a wonderful city with MANY attractions. From now we are going to see some of them!
    - One of the most visited places is Pampulha, a neighborhood in the town. There is Lagoa da Pampulha, a grandious lagoon that in the end of the year they put a huge Christmas tree! Also there is 'Igrejinha da Pampulha', a church build by a famous arquitect called Oscar Niemeyer, that contains images of Cândido Portinari. Another places are:
    • A such beautiful symbol of the local architecture called 'Casa do Baile';
    • A zoo with many tropical animals and plants;
    • A gorgeous Museum of Natural Art (or 'Cassino da Pampulha'), that contains multiple artwork;
    • The 'Mineirão' Stadium, where the Cruzeiro and Atlético Mineiro teams play (image). It is actually reforming for the 2014 World Cup, that'll be in Brazil!
    • The 'Iate Tênis Clube', a club with many pools, courts and fun. The gardens were planned by Robert Marx, a famous landscape architect.

    Getting here and around Belo Horizonte

    Getting here
    - There is one way to get in Belo Horizonte directly of USA:
    BY AIR: from the 'Aeroporto Internacional de Confins' (Confins International Airport) (photo). It is one of the most largest and busiest airports in the country. It is deemed to be one of the finest and best equipped in Latin America (LA). 
    - You can take an yellow taxi and go whatever you want in the town (but take care, the prices are quite expensive).


    Getting around
    click to zoom- A good wat to visit the city is catching a bus. There are a lot of buses in BH, and they go to literally all the places. You can see types of buses in the useful tips (box on the right). The prices range from R$1,70 to R$2,70. 
    - You can also take a taxi (the taxis are normally white, stamped with a sign) or rent a car. One good car rental is 'Localiza Rent a Car'. Here is one of the most popular places of this rental:
